Dept of Energy came together as Robb Benson was reforming the Dear John Letters. Intending to play with DJL bandmates Cassady Laton and Richard Davidson, he booked a show that had him pull together a different configuration due to scheduling conflicts. Benson grabbed Cassady and keyboardist Ty Ballie (Truly, Flight to Mars) after seeing him perform and knowing instinctively he had to work with him. In the end, it all worked out and Dept of Energy was born. |

Passport is a new spin on the classic bordeaux blend, just as Dept of Energy is a seasoned extension of the renowned Dear John Letters. Bold Merlot and Cab lead the way with notes of oak and balanced fruit, similar to Benson's undisguised vocals and heady guitar riffs. Cab Franc, Malbec and Petite Verdot round out the experience like melding Bailie's sweeping keyboard accents and Laton's multi-layered drumming with the mix. Both Passport and Dept of Energy provide an eclectic flavor profile that finishes with a memorable hum. |
